Nightmare Night is finally here! Also, I had to include Flutterbat in this post, since she is far too adorable to be left out of the occasion. More importantly, we have a trio of Halloween-themed PMVs lined up today in the spirit of Nightmare Night and a bonus SFM thrown in as well.
Bonjour, y’all! Hope you’re ready for a great new PMV, full of color, bouncy driving rock music, and of course, French! Now, admittedly I don’t know much from the language of amour, but I do know pony, and this here is some good pony. When I opened this video, and saw the colorful outline of the mane 6 cutie marks backed by a scintillating guitar intro, I knew this was going to be something good. And quite honestly, the fact that I don’t know what the lyrics are saying, takes nothing away from the feeling of the song, so it’s really quite enjoyable in that awesome kind of way. The outlines make a grand appearance again throughout the video as some really dynamic typography (again, French, but still really cool!), and there is no shortage of awesome cuts and scene choices. A great video to wake up to, and a great video to start your day!
Tonight, when you look up at the stars, please remember that nobody likes the guy who sings Coldplay songs out loud in the office for hours on end. Thank you.
However, while you are watching this video when nobody is around, please feel free to sing along, bob your head, or do otherwise to the simplistic visuals of Red Card. His latest PMV really matches his own style with the style of the song and it’s obvious that this editor is liking what he’s doing. The greatest part about this vid is that same sense of prosody kept throughout every detail. The most complex thing used here is the fading scenes and the colors are clear and sharp.
Aside from that general sense of unity, there are some very appropriate scenes for the style and tone. So find it below, and give it a like if you so desire.
As the weekend draws to a close, we have a spectacular PMV of the popular Icon For Hire song “Make A Move”. This isn’t the first PMV I’ve seen of the song, but this one definitely impressed me. The scenes chosen were clever and apt, fitting in with the action-styled theme of the music video.
The song used is quite unlike the original, as it is a Nightcore version of the song, where the pitch is raised and the song is slightly sped up. The effect of using that rendition of the song creates more of an impact, which resonates with me as I sat through the entire music video.
This was also the first PMV that I’ve seen which uses scenes from the Legend of Equestria, which is an interesting approach. Also, props to the video creator for that hilarious ending to the PMV. Check it out for yourself below!
There are precisely 7 reasons why you should drop everything you’re doing and watch the PMV below right now.
1) Pinkie Pie
2) Rainbow Dash
7) Cheating with Fluttershy
Why are you still reading this list? You should have hit play after reading number 1. Or number 2 if you’re that person. Get out of here! Go! Post’s over watch the video already! Alright there are precisely 7 reasons why you shouldn’t still be reading this post and you should be watching the video below already… AND THEY’RE RIGHT UP THERE! Seriously shoo and go watch the video already.
Spike PMVs are like Spike episodes. Far and few between. Only exception? Unlike most episodes, this is actually good! Okay that was in poor taste and I apologize. With a catchy song that definitely feels as if it lends itself to Spike’s personality, and great clip choices, not to mention the creator managed to find 4 minutes of appropriate scenes.. Check it out below! It’s a blast!
Tonight, we bring you a classic musical remix, based on a classic song from a classic sunny TV series, which had previously been given a classic AMV treatment, and now, fresh for 2014, has been given an all-new PMV treatment! Starring a master of karate and friendship for everyone!
I’ve seen this particular idea done in several places before, most famously in one of the Anthology videos, but kudos to this editor for doing the first one I’ve seen that didn’t use Celestia as the eponymous ‘Daymare’. Twilight is a much better fit than her anyway; at least Twilight fights on occasion. And speaking of fights, some of the best parts of this video occur when those glorious wubs kick in, and SS Level 4 Twilight battles Lord Tirek to some totally awesome and perfectly timed filters and cuts. This video runs a gamut of emotion, from despodent loneliness, to triumphant joy, all the way to righteous fury, and the editing effects always follow along. It’s definitely something I enjoyed, and I’m sure that you all will as well!
This picture was too cute not to post. Still not quite sure what’s up with Rarity, maybe grass isn’t good for the mane?
But if you want to smile as much as those ponies up there do, you have come to the right PMV. ObbsessiveBookworm (I don’t make the names, I just spell ’em correctly) has brought us another one of his epically soothing pieces with as much artistic merit and storytelling ability as his previous works.
The editor takes special care not to overdo the color overlays, and I really appreciate that. The scene selections are absolutely fantastic in terms of matching the mood; calm with either a gentle touch of sadness or happiness depending on the song’s tone. I usually have controversial opinions on typography, but the font and colors really fit for this song. What I DON’T like about the typography is that it does almost nothing to support the effectiveness of the PMV as just an overlay. Overlays are meant to be less distracting so that they don’t drag attention away from the foreground, which is an excellent scene selection in this case. However, people’s eyes naturally like to read things, and are thus pulled away from the actual content when typography appears.
So I could deal with a little less words here, but if you can look past that you’ll find a wonderful video. Go, watch it, continue on your way to Pony enlightenment.
Edit: After gathering extremely exclusive intel, I’ve discovered that the typography was used to give the video more of “it’s own voice.” I have to say, this particular video will certainly stand out from the rest of Bookworm’s, at least in my mind.
Breaking news, folks. You may want to sit down for this one. Are you ready for this? Here it goes: Fluttershy is a cute pony.
I know, I know. It’s hard to believe, but it is true. We in the fandom like so much to focus our art, music, and videos on Flutters being mean, or a bat, or…a tree, (I admit, I myself am guilty of that last one on more than one occasion.) that sometimes we forget that the core of her character is just being super-super-super adorable. So submitted for your benefit and your pleasure, PMV Today viewer, this is the single most adorable Fluttershy PMV on the Internet today. A very bold claim, to be sure, but this video certainly lives up to it. Great song, great colors, just plain great everything. If you’re looking for a sunny, happy special feeling that’s going to stay with you all day, you just found one. Enjoy it, pals!
