My Little VFX by Izeer PMV’s

Malathrom isn’t the only one who can make ponies look totally awesome.

That’s right mares and gentlecolts, this time we have an equally stunning PMV about VFX inspired by the talents of Malathrom, the guy who did “VFX Are Magic”.  This video has an equally creative title, and more importantly, a similarly epic set of magic video sparkles.  I think that the most inspiring part of these videos is the process of actually being able to see the scene evolve from a raw video clip into a fully fledged masterpiece.  Really makes ya want to learn how to do that stuff, or rather just have the time to do that stuff.  Have plenty of flares and clouds below!

You May Be Right by Paul Miller IV

How is MLP so great for silly, crazy stuff like this?  The world may never know.

I’m a sucker for classic rock and this simple PMV doesn’t disappoint with “You May Be Right” by Billy Joel.  The intro was really great in this one and scene selection wasn’t too bad either.  Scene selection could have been better however, there are a bunch of scenes I’m sure we all could think of that would really fit a crazy theme.  For example I didn’t see anything about the ponies being corrupted by Discord although that could have fit pretty well.  I’m sure that the editor’s problem with this was actually the opposite though, he had too many scenes to choose from!  Ponies are just so perfect for this kind of thing aren’t they?

Click below for craziness. (And congrats on the 1k subs :D)

Late post, I blame lack of submissions :P

Either way, I’m surprised this short clip of excellency hasn’t made it on to our front pages yet, it certainly seems good enough.  The top aspect to complain about is probably the lack of easing in the custom animation (I.E. when she is falling down) but at the same time I feel like the cool effects and structure more than made up for that.  The colors also make a really legit transition into the exciting part of the song.  Go check it out below.

Marey Boy: A Pony Parody Of A Parody Of A Superhero by Stellafera

Big titles call for big cover pictures :3

It seems like power ponies was so long ago for some of us, but here’s a really quick PMV about the comic/superhero made by Stellafera.  Not many vids have been posted on that channel as of late, so I was really excited to see this one!  The video centers around Pinkie being like Larry from the good old Veggie Tales.  But I think it could apply to all the power ponies if ya ask me :)

Not only did it surpass expectations, but Stella knew exactly which effects to use where.  Nice masking and funny scenes made all the difference in this and added to the super-style.  The use of color correction did a great deal to transform the scenes as well.  Another thing to note is the black strokes around the masked scenes when they appear in the middle part there.  Strokes are a huge part of comic drawing, and so integrating them into the PMV was a genius move.

Don’t take my word for it, Power Ponies, Power up! (or just check out the video below.)

Cage The Beast by bubbleberrygaming

Well happy Hearth’s Warming Eve y’all.  I’m sure some of you are still up waiting for Santa in the US or something so check out this slightly late PMV.

Camera jitter is abundant and so are some really nice rock transitions.  There are a few certain animations in the PMV world that really represent that heavy driving force behind distortion guitar and loud drums.  I think that most of the ones I’ve seen before are used repeatedly in this video, but they are still somehow kept fresh with the use of S4 action scenes and a cool tech overlay (that I admit might be overused).  Also, those watermarks could use some removing some time soon.

All of those little techniques added together really make for something that is super energetic and power packed.  Also, the consistent use of the T.V. warp filter made the whole thing come together nicely and flow better than it would have otherwise.  The plot was a little obscure, being “Bad guys and fighting stuff” however I guess that you don’t need to focus too much on that with the extremely fast pacing.  Very fast, very cool, and very intense.

Rock out to a little holiday special below!

Lullaby For A Princess by Tangy Neonz

Stuff

Oh great, another Lullaby For A Princess PMV, how typical right?

WRONG!

Perhaps it was the addition of the new season 4 scenes that made a simple one of these possible.  Maybe it is cut short at more than three minutes.  But this seems to have used many Celestia and Luna scenes without stretching the things out or trying to shove stuff in here and there.  It’s a great quality of simple PMVers to know when to extend your scenes and when to just stop and cut the song short.

Even with the great scene selection, however, it seems as though TangyNeonz missed out on a few times where “Sad” and “Celestia/Luna” could have easily been put in.  Not to mention the fact that still images could have been used as they are both simple and surely plentiful.

Still this PMV remains unique due to it’s simplicity and fresh taste.  EVERYBODY wants to make the lullaby for a princess video that matches the music in terms of total awesomeness with custom typography and cool particle effects and epic paintings, but nobody wants to take the core simplicity of the song and portray it using their given resources.  Catch this decent piece of princess pony history below.

Heavens Divide by Jaref

Yet another Jaref post!  Stop making good stuff dude, you’re going to outclass the rest of us XD

Anyway, an amazingly epic PMV by the master of simplicity himself has floated into my sights.  This time, it’s focused around Celestia (perfect character for the song both literally and emotionally) and her struggles.  Which then transitions into how the sun princess must pass her power onto a younger apprentice.  Not a bad plot, but it’s really the number of scenes that caught me off guard.

Without any recycled content or stressed placement, the author supplied a natural amount of clips from the show.  Even at the end, when he used a few still pics instead of movies, they looked like they were naturally put there and not just some filler because of a lack of material.  In the description, Jaref talks about how he was in constant demand for epic and holy sun princess clips but finally managed to make it happen when season 4 came out.  Speaking of which, we see for almost the first time a use of S4 clips without the cluttering watermarks.

If you can’t remove the marks, just zoom in a bit.  And if you do run out of clips, just use pictures.  There is a lot to be learned from our friend Jaref, so go check it out!

I Knew You Were Trouble Dubstep by SnowyBrony

Usually, I don’t like this genre of music.

When I clicked on this video from my subscriptions, I expected it to be absolutely horrendous.  But this is not just your regular 240p first attempt PMV.  It surprised me in many ways, and even though I had to tone down the volume, there was an elegance and modern style in the visuals that simply can’t be ignored.

The small tidbits of custom effects and plentiful green screen usage was appreciated.  But the surprising part is what the vid focused on.  The tone and swing of the visuals DON’T follow the melody like most others, but instead are more associated with the rhythm. It was different and I for one enjoyed that aspect.

The only thing I would have SnowyBrony do is focus more on story and extend the PMV for a bit more.  Other than that, not too shabby.  100+ hours of work was put into this, so I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Mirror Of Dreams by Jaref

New author SkyDash here, and I’ve got a mythically epic PMV for you below.  To introduce myself, I’m a Star Wars (and MLP, of course) nerd who absolutely loves watching pony music videos.  I started out as an animation reviewer for a show called My Little Reviews that I do with cool guys like the one and only Quetzal Dash.  I’ve had the chance to meet tons of PMVers on that livestream and I hope to meet even more on here!  Favorite pony is Fluttershy, and favorite villain is Discord.  Speaking of which, there is still an epic video that needs watching!

Not only do the visuals absolutely glow with the feeling that the song presents, but it’s nice and simple, just like the song.  I still say that it could have used some coloring here and there, but overall it is really great.

Jaref is known, of course, for his skill at making such brilliant simple PMVs.  The main exemplary point in this one however, is the match of storyline with the song and the author’s ideas.  Celestia and Luna banishing the good old DeLancie Discord wasn’t very easy for them.  This is a concept very well represented by the song choice and scene selection.  Enjoy!
