Hey guys! BronyCon is over and we all had a good time :) Today we are starting to post all of the winners for the PMV Contest, and we are starting of with our First Place Winner for Action, HanZh! This was absolutely amazing with Great Visuals and the way he used the clips and made it look like it was some kinda of Action Film, now that’s what I like :) And that ending part with the voice overs and sound effects, that was really cool. So Awesome Job to HanZh and Congratulations to him for winning First Place!
Oh Hi there! I’m Soniccrew128. And Today I’m here to show all of you an beautiful collab, My Everything hosted by GuncaPMV.
This collab centers around Celestia and Luna, and it shows about their harsh lives and how much they care about one another. This PMV is just filled with feelings, and emotions that I can even maybe cry. With the help of these amazing collaborators, this was an amazing piece of work, full of great visuals, animation, and typography. And surprisingly no use of show footage, which is awesome! So I hope all of you will check out this collab out and give a round of applause to these guys for working on this :D
I also want to say it’s such an honor being a author here on PMVToday, I always hoped that this site will come back. So until next time, you guys are awesome! *bro-hoof*
Hello guys and gals. You ready to go on a feels trip? If you haven’t watched this, you better be ready for some feels. This new video by Argodaemon is really amazing. According to him, the idea and work of this started around 2 years ago. It’s impressive. The ambient in which is portrayed is very cinematic and combining with the small concept story about Twilight’s immortality and wanting to have her friends back really captures the emotions here. No joke, tears were shed when I watched this. I swear there’s some ninjas cutting onions in my room. Twilight’s immortality is something that the fans has been debating now that she’s an alicorn, but has been confirmed by official staff that Twilight will not outlive her friends. Though this concept is still really interesting to get into and make story with it, and sad indeed. Go watch it down below.
Looks like we’re kickstarting another week, huh? Unfortunately, University has just started for me so I’ll likely be wrapped up with that for a bit. Education: Just say no.
Anywho, I found a pleasant surprise in my subscription box on Saturday. The return of omgilikeapples! I remember him fondly from his 2012 PMV – “Dear Princess Celestia…” The unique stop-motion paper style made that PMV stand out from a lot of others back then. It’s really nice to see a return to form utilizing that effect again in 2015 with a Porter Robinson song.
The video seems to be focused on the Season 2 finale, a recreation of the events throughout the two parter. It’s very neat to see it all brought together in this musical homage with some custom scenes to boot. For criticism, I’m left with wanting a bit more than just a recap of the episode in a different style. It’d be really cool to have more custom elements throughout! Still, what we get is great. The stop-motion style of editing is one that I’d love to see more of in PMV’s. Just imagine that done with custom art too… Oh wait, TheeLinker jumped on that train with La Da Dee…
I personally think it’d be awesome to see omgilikeapples make more stuff, so please go give them your support!
Hello everyone! We’re about a month or two away from Halloween. So how about a spooky video? A Source Filmmaker PMV! Oooo ^_^ This one is well made. The animations and visuals are great. The cinematography and character’s expressions matches the creepy ambient of the song (and the video itself). As you can tell from the title, this is based on the horror game series: “Five Nights at Freddy’s”. Even if you’re not a fan of the game series, you should really check this video out. Especially if you like spooky vids. The song is catchy too, it made me dance along with the video, even while the creepy pony animatronics moved around and sing. I gotta say, I love the animatronic models on this one. Anyways, go watch the video yourself down below!
Ah Monday, we meet again. Overall, it’s been quite a good week for us. Our new writers have done a great job and it’s awesome to see the site in action again. So with that in mind, I’d like to grab the spotlight and shine it in our direction. Specifically at the blue dragon sitting over there.
A lot of us who write for PMV Today are content creators ourselves and I feel this allows for a variety of different opinions and viewpoints. Case in point: Drakinite. He’s a talented up-and-coming animator who’s working on a full length custom animated PMV. Self promotion aside, he released a teaser for the project a few weeks ago and it’s pretty cool.
With the overwhelming success of “Strangers“, there’s no doubting that animated PMV’s can be executed very well. “Motions” here seems to feature a new OC character singing about her woes. What woes exactly? I’m… not sure. But hey, Soarin’ shows up for a few seconds. I’m gonna take a shot in the dark and say Miss Pink over here wants to be in a relationship with Soarin, but his heart lies with Spitfire. I think. Maybe. Possibly.
Alright – truth be told I’m not entirely sure what’s going on. It’s hard to tell from one teaser. All I know is that the animation shown is promising. Solid lip-sync and it’ll certainly be interesting to see what story emerges with these new characters. I do hope that we get enough context to be able to sympathize and relate with them. Often it’s difficult to create that connection with the audience, especially in a short music video. Either way, I wish him the best of luck with the creation. Hope it turns out well.
Check out the teaser below, and be sure to subscribe and pester Drakinite for the eventual release!
To continue with our contest highlights, we have the Action entry by LittleshyFiM which made 2nd place in our very own contest.
Basically, this is visually insane. Almost a year of work brings a short rapidfire burst of crazy visual effects. Seemingly related to the [Orbital Friendship Cannon] video back from 2011, the video toys with the idea of Celestia having a weapon of mass destruction, or in this case, friendship. This time around we seem to have a more consistent theme, with the objective being to wipe out all those pesky changelings with the assistance of Miss Sparkle.
While short, the video certainly packs an array of punches. I found it to be almost stunningly well done. It was a pretty hard decision for this not to steal first place, but Acleps brought some tough competition into the fray. I feel that this epitomizes the Action category in more ways than one. The combination of 3D animation, lens flares and lighting creates a compelling cinematic style which stands out over the rest of the entries. I have to compliment Littleshy for how hard he must’ve worked to get a lot of the effects to work. These are effects you’d typically see in movies, so to match them up with a fun pastel-coloured horse cartoon can’t be an easy feat. It’s incredibly well done and proves how great an artist LS can be with HitFilm.
Hello strangers! DeLoop’s back again, trudging through the PMV drought to bring you whippersnappers something to sink your teeth into. Don’t forget there’s a little under 2 weeks to submit your entries to our contest, by the way! We’re excited to see more entries from you guys.
Today I thought I’d feature an animation based on a song from the classic parody series “Friendship Is Witchcraft”. And man, it sure is hilariously dark. The animation certainly brings a whimsical charm to the original song, based on Applejack being a ruthless soldier and leading a war. There’s just something distinctly hilarious about the combination of lighthearted MLP and serious dark undertones. I guess that’s part of the reason I love FiW’s songs so much.
The art style and animation is great. It has a cartoon nature about it that works well. It’s not perfect and I’m not blown away by it, but it’s pretty good nonetheless. I especially enjoyed the musical elements that the animation played to, even incorporating some PMV elements throughout. It’s a fun little musical parody, one that we don’t get nearly enough of. I’d love to see more original animations in this style.
Hey everyone! I’m excited to be talking about a typography video for once – would you believe that during my four months here I haven’t actually had the chance to feature one?
So here we have a pretty awesome typography animation by CaliAzian, who seems to be a fairly undiscovered creator in the fandom. It’s based on a remix (if you can call it that) of the Babs Seed song. Considering it’s a typography of material from the show, Cali does a great job of keeping the visuals fresh and exciting. I’m a big fan of typographies that incorporate various other visuals into their style. I also really like how everything is constantly in motion. It takes a lot of work, but gives the video a lot more energy and really brings the final product to life. Also, props to him for creating a bunch of the vector assets too.
I love the use of red tinted backgrounds and brighter text complementing the overlay. It’s a very nice use of colours. I’d definitely love to see more videos of this style. They mesh perfectly with the show and it’s honestly fun seeing such an energetic and fun animation. It’s inspiring and refreshing to see undiscovered names still rocking it. Great job, CaliAzian. I hope you get a good boost of popularity from this!
Honestly, this is perhaps the best animation this fandom has ever produced.
Two years in the making, this animation focuses on the story of the two princesses. We see the tale of Luna’s banishment from Celestia’s perspective, and it is undeniably beautiful. Words are almost not enough to praise the sheer artistry of this creation. The style is gorgeous, the animation is outstanding, there’s a perfect use of ambient lighting and the emotional depth is staggering. The overall production value rivals that of large-scale animation companies. Considering the majority of this was created by one unpaid individual as a labor of love, the results are absolutely mind-blowing.
Even from an editor’s perspective, I can respect the amount of hard work, dedication and effort that this project must have took. While it may currently be spreading around like wildfire, I believe WarpOut deserves every single ounce of praise he gets. If he doesn’t get any career opportunities or the chance to advance his profession due to this, the world would be suffering a great injustice. Truly awesome.
