Elements-of-Harmony-my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-32050385-1131-707

It’s not often a video can touch a man’s heart, but this one does it, and in a big way. If you need a reminder of what friendship could mean, then this is the video I suggest. I love the use of the faded borders, the slightly washed out colors, and how about all that slow motion? These combined elements give this PMV a very ‘cherished memories photo-album’ style that I think we can all appreciate. Not to mention the beautiful message that blankets this entire video: unity and togetherness through any challenge. That’s really what I feel we have here.

Anyway, thanks so much for stopping by for the Sunday Classics Showcase. We hope to see you again next week!

Existential Ponies by StudNickerson

Do you feel happy? Are you in a good mood today? Well no more! This video will make you sad, guaranteed. If not, then you are a cyborg. And cyborgs are not tolerated here. Well maybe a little, seeing as I’m a full-fledged robot with little creative power. (and processing too, my reaction time is only matched by a snail) I actually wanted to say that some normal video techniques are usually forgotten when making pmvs, for example establishing shots as seen at 0:30. It then continues onto an extreme wide shot showing the library, then a wide shot of Twilight. Doing these things can make the video feel like a theater; its like a movie. These are filming standards, and should be considered when doing anything with videos. I know I have neglected this before, only realizing it now after watching this video.

Sunday Classics Double Showcase: Good ol’ Days by TommyXe & Lights by iAmxKoreaNx

She's Reading A Book!

We have a special treat for all our visitors. Our weekly vote resulted in a tie, so for this week’s Showcase, you all are getting a second Christmas tonight! Two videos, two classics, two of the fandom’s earliest examples of amazing PMV-making talent. The effects of both of these videos are astonishing. The first one has a great storybook feel to it with a tune that you can’t help but bounce along to. And the second utilizes one of the best examples of typography I’ve personally seen, with the toned-down colors and frantic editing really supporting the dark feel of the music. Thanks again to everyone who shared an opinion in the thread, and we hope to see you again next week!

Stars (Les Miserables) by scienceandponies

One of my favorite pony crossovers, and my all time favorite song from the musical! I wasn’t sure at first about casting Twilight as Javert, but when you think about it who else could have the single minded and obsessive determination to hunt her quarry across the years? The lip synching in this video is some of the best I’ve seen, and the end product manages to be as powerful as any rendition of the real play. They totally should have chosen Twilight over Russell Crowe in the recent movie adaptation.

Doctor Whooves Series 7, Silhouette, Pushover by Final Colt Productions

We received a trio of submissions from a brand new PMV creating team, so here are all three! First up is a ponified trailer for Doctor Who season 7, with some hilariously matched sound effects (cocking the Twilight gun is always enjoyable). Second is a rather sad video about the loneliness of Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy when they think they’ve lost their friends. Finally is my favorite of the bunch, a video about Fluttershy overcoming her status as a pushover with a vengeance! Just a perfect song for that whole episode. This team has managed to cover almost the full gamut of categories in their initial offering, an impressive feat!

Mad Mares by pspchief

The “Too Many Pinkie Pies” episode had some really sad and disturbing undertones when you think about it later. Today’s video and song do an excellent job of capturing Pinkie Pie’s feelings of despair as her clones overrun Ponyville and alienate her friends. The music is a ponified cover of a song that is already one of the saddest ever, with suitably depressing lyrics and beautiful singing. The video keeps the somber mood with strategic use of washed out colors and grayscale, and the shatter effects towards the end were particularly heartwrenching. Don’t be sad Pinkie Pie, we still love you!

One Last Letter (Feat. Bronyfied) Revamp Edition by BronySinc

Today we have another video featuring some custom animated singing ponies. The author has gotten really skilled at animating the character’s mouth to match the singing, which is a welcome addition for these types of videos. Also very cool was the cursive typography during the letter writing scenes. I imagine that the haphazard placement of the words is due to the dire situation described in the song, which is a nice touch.
