Hello everyone, I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Tuesday. I’ve come to show you this beautiful PMV made by Pyrobug0 called Open Your Eyes. This video won Judge’s Pick in the Everfree Northwest 2016 PMV contest, and let me tell you, this video is highly deserving of that. This is probably one of the best show footage PMVs I’ve ever seen. Heck, it might even be one of the best PMVs I’ve seen period. Seriously, the scene choices are perfect, the emotions in the video are spot on, and there are little things added throughout the video, so you may have to watch it a couple times to catch everything. All around, this video is a great work of editing, and I can’t fault it. I hope we see more from Pyrobug in the future!
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back. Today I present to you a brand new PMV from RainbowdashZx.
I like this PMV. The visuals are pretty stunning, and it feels good to review something a little more complex after clearing out the backlog of simple PMV’s. Not that simple PMV’s are bad by any means, this one actually has some simplistic elements to it, it’s just good to have a change once in a while. It is very similar to all his other PMV’s, but this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s generic and uninspired, just that the creator has found a style they can work with effectively.
The colour correction and editing as a whole are pretty fantastic. But however there are a couple things bugging me here and there. Call it nitpicking, but the lipsync isn’t quite on point. Maybe they were pushed for time, or the scenes they chose were quite awkward to work with. Other than noticing a few masking errors, and some obviously repeated backgrounds, this was a nice PMV all things considered.
Hey, Drakinite again. Here is another PMV that could be better visually, but is beautiful underneath. Pro Brony released this a few days ago, and I like it. The majority of the music video used text laid over clips from the show. Now, to be honest, several of the effects seemed either out of place or sloppy, but I like to emphasize that it doesn’t always matter, if there is a story or message to back it up.
This definitely did have a message behind the curtain. Pro Brony used the song — Flashlight by Jessie J — perfectly. The PMV is centered around the singer, who is helped through her tough days by someone close – whether it is a loved one or a friend, I am not sure. The video did not stick with one character; rather, show clips were chosen that best suited with the lyrics and message of the song.
Pro Brony has a lot of potential, and I’m really looking forward to what is to come from him in the future!

ANYWAY welcome back everybody it’s time to get the PMV train rolling again after our amazing contest at Bronycon! Check out the contest page up top to find the results for that, and over the next few weeks we’ll be posting all the incredible submissions that we received. Be sure to give them all lots of love for their hard efforts!
And today we have an especially fantastic collaboration between the famed editors of Ye Olde YouTube Lore. That’s right folks, everyone from Acleps to DeLoop has joined in on this fantastic celebration of our favorite little ponies. Sure it might lack a little focus other than the Mane crew and some general pony counterparts, but the effects are VERY SHINY, the transitions are fast and furious, and the song is well matched. Check it out below and let the gang over at the Collaboratory know what you think!
Hey all, we’re back again and today we have a PMV from Red Card, to the song “Shut up and dance with me”.
Now this is a great song, and I knew that it was prefect for a PMV. Red Card here has stepped up to the challenge and knocked it out of the park. This PMV does well in combining show and EQG footage. Mostly because it uses a lot of clips in which the characters are dancing.
Although the lipsync isn’t spot on, the editing pace fits the song perfectly. This here is a perfect example of a traditional PMV. And it proves that you don’t always need fancy visuals, or even effects of any kind to make a PMV great.
Now, although there’s probably a little too much Flash Sentry for most people to bare, that doesn’t change the fact that this is a great PMV.
Equestria. You will never find a more wretched hive of ponies and villainy…
Oh, and metal!
This next PMV by rainbowdashzx is OVER 5 MINUTES LONG and features a lot of angry horses screaming along to the sound of A7X. The effects and theatrical style of everything make it seem like a real music video (minus the instruments) and the sound effects at the beginning do a great job of filling in empty space. With the color correction and flashing lights, things were kept at pace with the song, which is always something hard to do.
The video is sensually beautiful. Fantastic lip sync and nice atmosphere abounded and made all of the scenes work with the music. The problem is, they didn’t work with themselves. I have no clue what this video is about. It seems to me like pure matching with the music and perhaps a general focus on evil versus good. I invite you to check it out below and tell us what you think the focus is, but either way it’s a good visual experience if you aren’t afraid of flashing lights.
Smily Twi is supa-fly. And she can fly. Like, literally.
And if you’ve ever had to deal with a relationship where you just need to keep your smile up after it’s done then this PMV and song is certainly for you! rainbowdashzx has finally finished his first full length bit in After Effects and it’s got the whole focus around a little TwiDash breakup. Don’t worry if you’re not a fan of shipping, this is pretty much like the anti-ship anyway.
Now the style and color of this piece is absolutely fitting with the music. It all becomes very chill, casual, and modern at the same time. The only trouble I had with coloring was that we would occasionally see artifacts and shading from different characters’ clips (i.e. 1:30) and it would interrupt that modern style just a bit. I can only see this choice as intentional, because in AE the layer fill effect tends to get all of it. Quite simply, I found the choice a bit jarring. It focuses the eye onto those little details.
But other than that this video is another great work from the editor and proof that he deserves every bit of attention he gets. Check it out below!
Hey guys, today we have a brand new PMV from Racecarghost.
Sticking to his style, Racecar has made another PMV to an anime song. And once again the editing matches perfectly. The shows clips played in windows zooming out, with visual based backgrounds are highly reminiscent of an anime intro. Throwing in subtle motion graphic sections also helped maintain interest in some scenes, and gave more variety. The choppy editing style used when the guitar is more prominent fits the song really well. And the complex scenes of show clips inside a globe really bring the whole thing together.
To be honest I’m not a fan of anime, but I still really appreciate the effort put in to this PMV. The editing is truly top notch.
You know, happiness and sunshine and flowers doesn’t have to be the one-dimensional state of mind that we think it is. Unless you’re Derpy over there on the right, then maybe…
ANOTHER COLLABORATION PMV shows this concept in a wonderfully exemplary way. The song itself is rather happy with a few mixes of emotion coming in every now and then, but the editing keeps up with this perfectly and uses the happiness shown by each of our characters to flavor the entire piece.
Speaking of editing, we do get a lot of videos with fancy effects and sparkles, but it’s always worth noticing when there are edits done with quality. I’m not saying that big effects bring down the amount of quality, but it isn’t dependent on them. In this video, for example, we see a fabulously upbeat, speedy and lyric-matching edit in Tygr’s short part at the beginning. Things aren’t necessarily custom, but the “dominoes” line is constructed in such a manner that I just feel super excited watching it.

It’s just like our good mayor said, this stuff really does bring people from all walks of life together.
The same applies to collaborations!
Good evening every pony and welcome to another fabulous featuring of a fantastically frivolous work of art. The song is Runaway, but don’t do that quite yet until you’ve checked out this new collab! This particular piece features monumental effort from big names like Alanj2007, all the way to our very own Pixel3000Nerd.
Speaking of whom, it seems like the most noticeable part about this PMV was the timing of everyone’s parts. I’d say P3N’s style fits perfectly with the huge drop in the song when he comes in, and RDZX makes an incredible crescendo with his slightly shaken camera (and reference to G+). DaSpacePony gives us a proper and fitting relaxation using their own ‘spaced-out’ style and JackDC93, a contest judge this year, had the perfect atmosphere for the soloed vocals at his part.
