Vegas Lights by The Collaboratory

Friendship conquers all.

Hello. Jack here again, showcasing a PMV that is, for all intents and purposes, an incredibly special one. This PMV was made for TheLightLeavesThee, a fellow PMV editor (and is also the co-ordinator/founder of The Collaboratory, as well as one of the authors on this site) who has recently been fighting through depression.

Orchestrated by racecarghost, various editors from within The Collaboratory came together to make a PMV with a more personal touch. Each editor used their own editing styles to weave together something with a huge emotional impact, from the inclusion of motion graphics (courtesy of editors such as TheAcleps and daspacepony) to the use of more traditional editing styles (as seen from JakeWhyman and ObsessiveBookworm). There’s even a few off-the-wall and creative moments that inject a bit of humour into the video, courtesy of DrDinosaur.

It’s clear that everyone brought their A-game into this PMV. Everyone who participated in this collab had only one goal in mind: to make a video that can bring a smile to their friend in need, and if this reaction video is anything to go by, then I think everyone succeeded in achieving that goal.

We love you, Dex. <3

Beautiful Now by SnowT (Collab)

What does this image have to do with today’s PMV? It’s simple: the picture is awesome, and the PMV is awesome. That’s the theme of today’s post – awesome things. Because this is an awesome PMV, featuring some awesome editors.

Seriously, every possible style of PMV is present here, and the all flow together into an excellent video. The song choice, while not one I would have thought to make a PMV of, works really well. There is a great blend of typography, motion graphics, clip selection, and even some custom animations. It’s just really good, and you should go check it out below.

I See Fire by tigresss

Here is a new Feel-Good PMV for you all, with some nice color effects and typography. It is set to the song by Ed Sheeran under the same name, and utilizes clips from various episodes throughout the show. Most of them involve enemies like Chrysalis, Discord and Nightmare Moon; but what I found intereating was their decision to include several shots from the episode Dragonshy.

I find this PMV to be very calming. Tigresss’ use of slow, cinematic shots and transitions were perfect for the song. After a day of stress, I am deeply enjoying watching this video on repeat. Especially if you like calming music and videos, I would recommend watching this. This guy is very good.

Seasons of Love by Abby S

mane_6_by_kp_shadowsquirrel-d58tat2

Welcome back, citizens of the internet. Jack here, showcasing to you today another fine PMV made by one of our very own authors on the site, Abby S.

When watching this PMV, it’s clear that several aspects seen in Abby’s previous PMV’s have evolved significantly. When I covered Abby’s PMV contest entry, Guide You Home, I mentioned how one of my favourite aspects of the PMV was how the show clips matched brilliantly with the music, and this is taken to another level with this PMV. The use of feel-good clips from the show, as well as a small use of vectors and masks at the beginning of the video, already set up a feel-good vibe, but the way the clips, vectors and masks are timed to the beat of the uplifting music create an immersion of positiveness that is hard to break out of. The vibrant, bright filters also add to the feel-good atmosphere this PMV creates, leaving you with a product that makes it very easy to put a smile on your face.

Typography is also present in this PMV, although it is used to a lesser degree than in some of Abby’s previous works. While I feel most of the typography used worked well here, there were a few moments where I felt it was a little intrusive. However, this is a very minor quibble in what is otherwise a fantastic, and clean, traditional PMV. I’ve always been a fan of well-made traditional PMV’s, and Abby is quickly becoming one of my favourite editors in that regard. With an evolution of established techniques on show here, as well as some new techniques being implemented, I look forward to see what she has in store.

Smile by Amanie4cures

smile__mlp__by_aquagalaxy-d74mpie

Hey guys, got a lovely little PMV today from Amanie4cures.

We have another simply edited video, and the slow pace really does fit the song. I think the nice choice of clips coupled with the song itself is really uplifting. The creator did attempt some lipsync, and with more practice this could work really well. The creator also added a little more spice to the video with lens flares and simple but clever transitions between the clips. The editing itself is really well timed. I’m surprised this person doesn’t have more subs, because they certainly deserve them.

Overall I found this PMV very enjoyable, and hope you do too.

Lovers On The Sun by Athil MV

Hello guys and gals! Bringing you with a neat simple PMV by Athil MV and with a David Guetta song! This is one of those simple PMVs where it doesn’t use filters like barely or at all, and this one is that but it’s really good. The scenes used fit well with the song’s atmosphere and mood. And I like when the style changed quite a bit with the small scenes passing by and a lens flary background as well as the hearts transition around the second beat drop of the song. It’s a really nice touch to a great simple but satisfying PMV. Go watch it down below!

Invisible Sun by Drummershy

Today I bring you a PMV from up-and-coming video editor, Drummershy, staring everyone’s favorite Princess Horse (unless you prefer Luna, Twilight, or Cadence), but if you love Celestia, this is the PMV for you!

This video has a pretty cool concept – the majority of video is inside Celestia’s cutie mark, with some cool, if simple, motion graphics. And as always, Drummershy displays some excellent scene selection. The song choice makes a lot of sense for a Princess Celestia video, and the whole thing flows together well. It is the kind of video that just leaves you feeling good.

My one major complaint would be the drumbeats in the beginning. Though I get the concept of the yellow circle beating in time with the drums, I feel like it could have been executed better. Perhaps take up more of the screen, instead of being off to the side? Regardless of that, this is a great PMV, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you definitely should. Drummershy always does well, and this is no exception.

Reach by MrDeLoop

my_little_pony_wallpaper___remade_by_delta105-d4i9l6w

Welcome back my dudes. Today we have a wonderful PMV from the overlord himself, MrDeLoop.

Now this PMV is simple as simple can be. And this is because it is a remastered version of DeLoop’s first ever full PMV. Now you may be thinking, “Why re make a perfectly good PMV?”. A lot of people have asked this question, and there’s more than one answer. The original was made back in 2011. Those who have been around since then will probably remember that the episodes were horribly de-saturated. Secondly, the editor has gained so much more skill and experience over the last 4 years that it was actually a pretty good idea to make this to show how far they’ve come.

But enough about why it was made, lets get to actually talking about what makes it great. Well most notably is just how great the editing is. Perfect cuts with perfect clips. Understandable from someone with so much experience. Then there’s the lip sync, which is some of the best lipsync I’ve seen from any PMV to date. Not only that, but I find that the singers voices match go well with each character chosen. Pretty clever if you ask me.

I personally think this is the best example of classic PMV editing this fandom has ever produced. But I’ll let you guys be the judges. Check it out bellow.

Our New Intelligence by ObsessiveBookworm

onward_ponies_by_harwicks_art-d4hhcdm

Posts so nice, I did it twice!

Jack here once again, bringing you another PMV that was entered into this year’s BronyCon PMV Contest. This PMV, made by ObsessiveBookworm (who is, personally, one of my favourite PMV makers within the fandom) placed second in the Feel Good category, and right from the get-go, you can see the time and effort that was put into the video for it to achieve that spot.

What I’ve always loved about ObsessiveBookworm’s work is how all the clips on screen match the music incredibly well, and this PMV proves no exception to that rule. However, there’s a lot more to this PMV than that. The excellent use of typography (which made this PMV feel more fun and lively), as well as the motion and placement of the vectors and masks, which kick in near the middle of the video, just shows how much work ObsessiveBookworm put into this PMV, and how far they’ve come in terms of their editing skills. Add to that the occasional use of motion graphics, and you have a wonderful combination of sound and visuals.

As stated before, I am a huge fan of ObsessiveBookworm’s work, and it’s great to see them evolve so much with every new PMV they release. I can’t really wait to see what’s next.

Flashlight by Pro Brony

Hey, Drakinite again. Here is another PMV that could be better visually, but is beautiful underneath. Pro Brony released this a few days ago, and I like it. The majority of the music video used text laid over clips from the show. Now, to be honest, several of the effects seemed either out of place or sloppy, but I like to emphasize that it doesn’t always matter, if there is a story or message to back it up.

This definitely did have a message behind the curtain. Pro Brony used the song — Flashlight by Jessie J — perfectly. The PMV is centered around the singer, who is helped through her tough days by someone close – whether it is a loved one or a friend, I am not sure. The video did not stick with one character; rather, show clips were chosen that best suited with the lyrics and message of the song.

Pro Brony has a lot of potential, and I’m really looking forward to what is to come from him in the future!
