Okay another question for all you AE pros, is it possible to get a mask to only be active at a certain point. Or do I have to have it for the entire clip? Thanks!

The best way is to duplicate the layer, make the mask, and then cut it down to size for the segment you want. (Does that cover it?)

All I know is that a wav is uncompressed and a mp4 has some sort of lossless formatting... so long story short is that an mp4 has a smaller file size than a wav, which is probably easier to run. Keep in mind this is only a guess. I personally don't use Vegas anymore but I can tell you that all my video files are mp4s. Hoped this helped.

aha okay i'll convert them after i'm done with my current pmv.

Another quick AE question if I want an object to appear from perhaps a center line by sliding in from the center, not over at the side. What would be the best way to do it. I'm trying to use a mask but when ever I move the layer the mask moves too. If I need to clarify just let me know and thanks for the help!

I'm not sure what you mean by sliding in from the center. I should be able to help, but I'm not sure what context you're describing.

Okay this is gonna be wierd but this is the best and quickest way I can think of explaining what I'm looking for...

See that skyscraper(of course you do), okay thats my center line. Now I want a cloud "my layer" to be sliding left to right but only visible when it reaches the right side of the sky scraper. So basically it looks like the cloud is coming out of the building, to the right. That's the effect I'm trying to figure out.

Lol I hope this makes sense. It probably doesn't.

Ooh I gotcha! Nah don't worry I know what you mean. I'll go along with the theoretical example too, just to explain.
So you're trying to mask out the motion of the cloud, rather than the object itself. That's why when you try to mask the cloud itself and move it left to right, the mask moves too. Essentially, all you need to do is pre-compose the motion of the cloud.
Open up a new composition, move the cloud from left to right across the screen. Next, move the comp with the cloud back into your original. Now the composition with the cloud is handling all the motion for you, so all you need to do is add a mask to the pre-composed cloud and ensure your layers are in the correct order (cloud behind the skyscraper). That should do it! Wink
