Sunday Classics Week 5: January 14, 2013 [CLOSED]
Alright guys, here's the videos for this week. We tried our best to pick out some videos that will hopefully be a bit more evenly matched than last week. So get at it, and thanks in advance for all your participation.

PMV - Time Stand Still by QuetzalDash

I Love Everything ( My Little Pony PMV ) [ Fluttershy & JackleApp Tribute] by dragonv0942

[PMV] We'll B in Harmony Even Through Struggle by rsmv2you

NOTE: Did you notice I figured out the Youtube inserts for the forum? I think this'll be easier than clicking back and forth for each video.

The first one had decent clip selection but had too many filters and the masks were feathered to hell and back.

The second one had nice clips and the effects were consistent and simple enough that their increased presence didn't bother me.

In the end I vote for number 3, though, because even though the effects are minimal it has the most heart and best theming.

Voting for #3.

The first video had a lot of things I bawk at with videos. Inconsistent lip sync, non aesthetic use of text, TV Sim, a constant filter over the video, overly feathered masks, and a general feel of the author using effects for the sake of using them and nothing more. It took me out of the experience and wasn't very fun to watch.

The second video suffers from a few of the problems of the first. A constant filter that doesn't add anything for me, overuse of lights/lens flare, and an OBNOXOIUS overuse of text in the video that is unnecessary and visually not appealing. The clips match the song, but all of the previously mentioned things didn't make for a enjoyable experience.

So that leaves #3 which wins for me because it does a lot of those things I listed up there and either does them right or in a way that is not totally unappealing. Instead of a constant filter over the screen, there's an outer vignette for much of the video which isn't obtrusive to its viewing. What little masks there are look well made or at least grabbed from Vector Club, and the small amount of light and text effects used are well placed and not overdone. And this is all before mentioning that it's a song without lyrics, which adds to the difficulty of making the video, and still the scenes do a good job of matching the mood of the song as it progresses.

Simplicity wins this round and for good reason.

Robots feel emotions too. (not really) So I'm voting for number three, it held my heart in it's hands (or hooves?) and played with it's small amount of feels. Oh wait, I don't have a heart! I'm a robot!

I loved the "time" motif used throughout #1, and #3 did a great job fitting scenes to the instrumental song, but my vote goes to #2. It had a great feel to it, and the bright filter and lens flares were fitting for what I imagine Fluttershy's memories would look like to someone viewing them.

Wow. The theme this week 'nostalgia'?

'Time Stand Still' starts a bit slow, but I really liked the ending. In particular, the hallway effect was well placed and I liked the symbolism.

I think 'We'll B in Harmony Even Through Struggle' had consistently excellent scene selections which help take you on an emotional journey. Kudos for being one of the very few totally instrumental PMVs I seen!

In the end I'm voting for 'I Love Everything'. I thought it was an excellent character piece. The effects were subtle but really set the tone for the experience. I found it very poignant.Heart
