As we come to the end of the year, it’s a time to look back at all the great things that happened during 2012. Today’s video is a touching retrospective of the brony fandom over the last year, hitting on several of the more popular fan created works created during 2012. This past year has really been a great time for pony fans around the world, with the show’s popularity exploding as well as the amount of ridiculously awesome fan created works. Among other things, this site came into existence and has grown into what you see today, and I want to sincerely thank all of you who visit and enjoy the site for your continued support. Here’s to a great 2013!
Today’s video gives us a dramatic look into the dark and sordid history of the great nation of Equestria. Some really intense music and perfectly placed sparks and fire make the history shown in “Hearth’s Warming Eve” more striking than it has any business being. The scenes overlaid on top of panning shots of the map of Equestria was also a very nice touch.
I know Christmas is over, but this video was too good to pass up. The lip-syncing is good. I really like the song choice and how well it fits Twilight. It’s an awesome theme for Twilight as she learns about friendship and we all know she loves to learn! I like all the clips of Twilight being alternatively excited and confused like only Twilight can be. It’s impossible for me not to smile after watching this :D
A song about flying? That must mean a Rainbow Dash PMV is imminent! And if it’s an Iron Maiden song then you know it’s going to be an awesome one. With so many great Rainbow Dash scenes to choose from, especially after the recent Wonderbolts episode, a video like this practically writes itself. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy to get the timing just right, which this PMV manages to do.
Today’s PMV is about competition, both between friends and between enemies. The video does a good job making both extremely exciting to watch, with lots of split screens and multiple layers. The smokey text effect was also very cool. We don’t get to see the mane six compete with each other very often, so RD and AJ’s Iron Pony Competition still stands out as one of the most interesting episodes.
This PMV is a collab by a bunch of very talented editors, so check out the video description to see the full list. The great part about collaboration videos is all the different styles that are present in short succession. Amazingly, each editor’s portion flows seamlessly into the next, maintaining the same great feel throughout. Special mention goes to the very effective use of green screen ponies and typography, and I also really liked the Pinkie clock scenes. PMV editors are already awesome by themselves, but get together a group of them and you end up with an amount of awesome that’s almost too much to handle!
It’s amazing what you can accomplish using almost nothing but pony vectors. RaceCarGhost gives us another pony parody of a Vocaloid music video, and is able to closely recreate the original using various pony vectors. The lyrics of the song were also updated to more closely match the characters used in the video. I am sensing an emerging pattern of ponification of crazy Japanese music videos, which I wholeheartedly approve of. Also, from what I can tell the video casts Twilight Sparkle in the role of God which I found rather amusing.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas day, with lots of food, fun, and presents. For our last holiday themed PMV of the season, here is a video that covers all of the different winter holidays and the various people who celebrate them. If there’s anypony that would know everpony well enough to send them all the correct holiday wishes, it’s Pinkie Pie. For all of you out there reading this right now, Pinkie Pie will be arriving at each of your houses with personalized holiday wishes very soon!
Hope everyone is having a great holiday season, spending time with friends and family and showing them all the PMVs they might have missed! To set the holiday mood, here is a cheerful video featuring another song by Owl City. Lots of snappy transitions and well placed typography keep the energy level high, while the two halves of the video mesh nicely together which can be hard when doing a collab.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday’s from all of us here at PMVToday!
