Invisible Sun by Drummershy

Today I bring you a PMV from up-and-coming video editor, Drummershy, staring everyone’s favorite Princess Horse (unless you prefer Luna, Twilight, or Cadence), but if you love Celestia, this is the PMV for you!

This video has a pretty cool concept – the majority of video is inside Celestia’s cutie mark, with some cool, if simple, motion graphics. And as always, Drummershy displays some excellent scene selection. The song choice makes a lot of sense for a Princess Celestia video, and the whole thing flows together well. It is the kind of video that just leaves you feeling good.

My one major complaint would be the drumbeats in the beginning. Though I get the concept of the yellow circle beating in time with the drums, I feel like it could have been executed better. Perhaps take up more of the screen, instead of being off to the side? Regardless of that, this is a great PMV, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you definitely should. Drummershy always does well, and this is no exception.

Orbital Friendship Laser by LittleshyFiM

To continue with our contest highlights, we have the Action entry by LittleshyFiM which made 2nd place in our very own contest.

Basically, this is visually insane. Almost a year of work brings a short rapidfire burst of crazy visual effects. Seemingly related to the [Orbital Friendship Cannon] video back from 2011, the video toys with the idea of Celestia having a weapon of mass destruction, or in this case, friendship. This time around we seem to have a more consistent theme, with the objective being to wipe out all those pesky changelings with the assistance of Miss Sparkle.

While short, the video certainly packs an array of punches. I found it to be almost stunningly well done. It was a pretty hard decision for this not to steal first place, but Acleps brought some tough competition into the fray. I feel that this epitomizes the Action category in more ways than one. The combination of 3D animation, lens flares and lighting creates a compelling cinematic style which stands out over the rest of the entries. I have to compliment Littleshy for how hard he must’ve worked to get a lot of the effects to work. These are effects you’d typically see in movies, so to match them up with a fun pastel-coloured horse cartoon can’t be an easy feat. It’s incredibly well done and proves how great an artist LS can be with HitFilm.

Check out some awesome intensity below!

Happy Friday folks! Today we have a nice PMV involving the bond between Twilight and Celestia. The PMV seems to imply that they will be around for each other when they need to. At least that’s my take.

One thing I like about this video is the transitions. The editor really knows how to do transitions, and he knows how to do them well. However, I personally feel there were too many effects (less shake please) and sometimes transitions for the song.  Some parts were hit well, but I think the editing might have been a bit too overdone.

Still, it’s a good video and worth a watch.

Lullaby for a Princess by WarpOut

Untitled

Honestly, this is perhaps the best animation this fandom has ever produced.

Two years in the making, this animation focuses on the story of the two princesses. We see the tale of Luna’s banishment from Celestia’s perspective, and it is undeniably beautiful. Words are almost not enough to praise the sheer artistry of this creation. The style is gorgeous, the animation is outstanding, there’s a perfect use of ambient lighting and the emotional depth is staggering. The overall production value rivals that of large-scale animation companies. Considering the majority of this was created by one unpaid individual as a labor of love, the results are absolutely mind-blowing.

Even from an editor’s perspective, I can respect the amount of hard work, dedication and effort that this project must have took. While it may currently be spreading around like wildfire, I believe WarpOut deserves every single ounce of praise he gets. If he doesn’t get any career opportunities or the chance to advance his profession due to this, the world would be suffering a great injustice. Truly awesome.

Pony Soda by DownburstProductions

Hello guys and gals! Today I bring you with a really cool PMV with a Shawn Wasabi song. If you know me, you know that I mostly like and watch PMVs with motion graphics and cool effects, but everyonce in a while I like to see some simple neat PMVs. This is one of them, and it’s great. With only using clips, no filters or effects, the editor here has arranged and synchronized each clip with the song. The silly sound effects in the music that Shawn Wasabi has created with his MIDI fighter, Downburst also added it’s own bits and clips of silly moments of the ponies which makes the video really fun to watch. Go watch the PMV down below!

Shatter Me – Lindsey Stirling – by DoubleRainbowfilly

Hey all! Tonight we have a flashy PMV by DoubleRainbowfilly. Making good use of the new footage we’ve gotten already, this video has quite a few scenes stretching from S1 to S5.

One effect I noticed that was used quite a bit was keying (as opposed to masking). It’s an interesting choice as it’s rarely used in PMVs. Some of that keying was spectacular, and the compositing made for some really interesting scenes overall. The editor here really showed good usage, however there were a few scenes that I wondered why it was there, like the black on the tree house before the transition and on the mannequins (the next scene was perfect though with the composited footage). Transitions were also quite well done, and I particularly liked the blinds effect.

Check it out for yourself!

Celestia Loves You by Terriccota Pie

So let me be honest- I have no idea what is going on in this video or what Terricotta Pie had going through his head when he made it. I do however know that it is wonderfully silly.

I really don’t even know what to else write about this other than Celestia loves you, Twilight has a very Russian accent, and Pinkie is silly.

Just watch it.

Sisters by ObbsesiveBookworm

Sisters. A very nice PMV by ObbsessiveBookworm. Happy and colorful, featuring the sisters from the show. This video has some great scenes both sad and happy moments of the sisters we know. No matter what happens, they will always be together. The song track for this is very fitting and beautiful and matches every clip in the editing of this. It’s really nice to see a PMV dedicated to the sisters, and this is one of them.

Oh boy look what we have for us today, this is my first post so I’m glad it could be a PMV to one of my favorite bands of all time. The One They Call Brony has brought us something very special with this PMV to the song Dio by Tenacious D. Might I also add if you’re a fan of PMVs with good lip sync, good stories and good music (like myself) then I highly suggest that you check this one out. I’m sure if you’re a Tenacious D fan you wont be disappointed.  (picture by mackinn7)

The Parting by Jaref

Ugh, I am just starving from the lack of PMVs we’ve got going on here, aren’t y’all?

Lucky for you, we’ve got something totally awesome from our pal Jaref here today.  I mean come on, how often do we get an amazing Celestia/Luna like this?  The hard part about doing one of those is that your scene selection is severely limited and your plot line is going to be the same thing.  Well, our editor manages to overcome the lack of content obstacle while also putting more of an edge to the same old story of “Princess X banishes Princess Y.”  That’s not to say it’s not a good story, though.

Yep, those scenes really take you off guard considering all the (lack of) Celestia/Luna spotlight that we get in the show.  Even if it were focused around any other pony though, I’d say that these visuals are quite accurately matched with the tunes.  Jaref shows a lot of restraint and professionalism, especially around 1:07 where it would be so easy to just show the window bust, but the song doesn’t quite climax there, so we can’t do that.  Very good scene choice in this one, so check it out below and tell us what ya think!
