Lemon Tree by TheRayteR

Interesting little PMV we’ve got here today. By “The RayteR”, who’s only been around for about a month and is already doing pretty well.

The song itself isn’t really the type of song you see very often in PMV’s, but this guy seems to have pulled it off. The bright colors match the cheery theme. There’s a good choice of clips, and the visuals match up well with the lyrics. One thing that stands out is the slick motion graphics. Interesting use of bright cheerful colors, which feels somewhat summery.

If I were to criticize this video, I could say that the lip sync was a little off in some scenes. The typography could use some work, especially in the first scenes where the text color makes it difficult to read. The color correction is a little inconsistent, and the glow is too strong, which washes out the original footage, but other than that, this is a pretty good video.

Overall I’d say it’s quite a pretty PMV. It’s enjoyable to watch and there isn’t a visual overload. So props to The RayteR, and I hope to see more content from him in the near future.

Robot Love by Penny Thief

Set phasers to post.

Hey all! Here we have the first PMV from a new editor on the scene. I actually ended up talking to Penny Thief while he was making this – turns out he felt inspired by the likes of my work. The best part about being a creator is knowing that you can inspire others to create too.

For a first PMV, I can’t complain. There’s a lot of interesting concepts, custom scenes and typography in use, as well as a bunch of the GreenscreenPonies masks that everyone seems to use. There’s definitely a stylistic approach of a black and white noir colour scheme. It’s nice to see a song of this genre done with MLP too.

The execution, admittedly, could be much better. But I’m sure that by making more PMV’s, the creator will improve and hone his skills. The video could be more smooth – the cuts feel too sharp and direct. Transitions would help a lot, as would the inclusion of more visual action on screen. The pacing could be improved as it currently drags a bit.

Despite the author commenting on how he doesn’t know what he’s doing (2:38), it’s fun observing his experimentation throughout the video. The fact that he’s actively trying out all these new things gives him a giant advantage moving forward. It was a great first attempt and I really enjoyed the lighthearted chilled out atmosphere of it. Check it out below!

‪How Ponies made the Season 4‬ by AgrolChannel

Greetings,

Fellow Mondaynians,

Imagine, that My little pony was a show. Give me a moment to rephrase that…

What if, The characters from Mlp Friendship Is Magic Were played by actors.  Wait…

Ponder on if you will, The possibility that our beloved show was not real.

This is a lot harder to write about than I though.

To partake in some more bloopers, ones fairly nicely animated even, Give this mondays Video a few, even though I am assured many of you already have.

I approve This.

Hooked on a Feeling by Unr3al Gamer

Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 11.29.56 AM

Today’s PMV is a lot of fun, from beginning to end. The silly-but-catchy chanting that starts it off really sets the tone for the fun times and good feels to come. I would call this a simple PMV, although there are some tastefully-used filters and a few light effects and transitions at play. While the lip-sync could have been better, the scene choices matched up really well with the feeling of each and every moment of the song. I found myself smiling a lot while watching this one, and that’s always a good sign for a successful PMV, in my book. I’m definitely hooked on the feeling that this video creates.

Devils In My Head by King Hatchet

SEIZURE WARNING!

Get ready for some serious rock and roll, kids, because this PMV is blistering! Yeowch! The chugging Motorhead track behind this video is extremely energetic and fun, especially if you like this particular style of grungy rock, and the editing holds up strongly. The scene choices are extremely literal, so don’t expect much of a story here, but all of the footage is well-selected and engaging, with plenty of movement and fun moments. I would call this a simple PMV, even though there are some effects present. The basic effects that are used complement the footage and music very well, with some well-timed (albeit a bit too chaotic and abrasive, perhaps) flashing colors.

‪[PMV Collab] Sunshine‬ by ‪‪UnitedPonyCollabs‬‬

Sunshine

Greetings,
Fellow mondaynians,

I do find it nice when our pony friends are in situations which encourages the same thing they are proudly standing for, a song about letting the golden edge of the times shine through is a very upbeat and true to the source. Anyone notice I said the same thing is those sentences but with different words? none? good.
Be a champion with the help of those who stand near and see the light you can accomplish. That sums it up rather well. Over to the execution, the way this PMV was handled. Text based with scenes emphasizing the music. No uncommon, but certainly not bad execution. Often the text looks very fitting, or is hiddenly obscured by the scene, making one agnolish them without the disturbing the  feeling of the video, a detail I quite enjoyed. Splendid, to shorten it to a single word.
It really makes you smile, doesn’t it?

I approve This.

I See Fire by TwilightHolmes91

mlp___the_desolation_of_smaug__colorized__by_beb156-d6qtwec

This PMV is heavy on the atmosphere and creates a great, somber feel that fits just swell with the song, which comes from the second Hobbit movie. The author has sprinkled in some fan-made footage along with the canonical variety. My nitpicky, purist self almost cried foul, but I think, in the end, the video is much better off for the supplemental scenes, which capture a certain element of this song that the regular footage alone wouldn’t quite cover. My only real gripe, then, is that the song is clearly pitch-shifted, and sounds a little off, but by the author’s own admission, this version is a re-upload to avoid a copyright take-down, so I guess we can forgive the misdemeanor :)

All These Things That I’ve Done by Eldonde

knock_by_gor1ck-d718hye

I don’t know what’s going down in this title image, but I like it, so deal with it.

This is technically a “remastered” version of an older PMV, but I haven’t even seen the original, so me, it stands on its own four hooves as simply a phenomenal PMV, any way you slice it. There are a lot of simple, but effective techniques going on in this one, including great lip-syncs and multiple clips playing side by side or in layers. I especially like the way Eldonde has used transparency to combine two or more clips and give them an entirely new feel or, generate a particular effect, like having Twilight pop out of the same puddle that Fluttershy is staring into (3:42 in the video).
