Worlds Collide by RainbowdashZx

the_burden_you_bear_by_huussii-d7i0gq7

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back. Today I present to you a brand new PMV from RainbowdashZx.

I like this PMV. The visuals are pretty stunning, and it feels good to review something a little more complex after clearing out the backlog of simple PMV’s. Not that simple PMV’s are bad by any means, this one actually has some simplistic elements to it, it’s just good to have a change once in a while. It is very similar to all his other PMV’s, but this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s generic and uninspired, just that the creator has found a style they can work with effectively.

The colour correction and editing as a whole are pretty fantastic. But however there are a couple things bugging me here and there. Call it nitpicking, but the lipsync isn’t quite on point. Maybe they were pushed for time, or the scenes they chose were quite awkward to work with. Other than noticing a few masking errors, and some obviously repeated backgrounds, this was a nice PMV all things considered.

Remembrance by Argodaemon

Hello guys and gals. You ready to go on a feels trip? If you haven’t watched this, you better be ready for some feels. This new video by Argodaemon is really amazing. According to him, the idea and work of this started around 2 years ago. It’s impressive. The ambient in which is portrayed is very cinematic and combining with the small concept story about Twilight’s immortality and wanting to have her friends back really captures the emotions here. No joke, tears were shed when I watched this. I swear there’s some ninjas cutting onions in my room. Twilight’s immortality is something that the fans has been debating now that she’s an alicorn, but has been confirmed by official staff that Twilight will not outlive her friends. Though this concept is still really interesting to get into and make story with it, and sad indeed. Go watch it down below.

Woo, paper ponies!

Looks like we’re kickstarting another week, huh? Unfortunately, University has just started for me so I’ll likely be wrapped up with that for a bit. Education: Just say no.

Anywho, I found a pleasant surprise in my subscription box on Saturday. The return of omgilikeapples! I remember him fondly from his 2012 PMV – “Dear Princess Celestia…” The unique stop-motion paper style made that PMV stand out from a lot of others back then. It’s really nice to see a return to form utilizing that effect again in 2015 with a Porter Robinson song.

The video seems to be focused on the Season 2 finale, a recreation of the events throughout the two parter. It’s very neat to see it all brought together in this musical homage with some custom scenes to boot. For criticism, I’m left with wanting a bit more than just a recap of the episode in a different style. It’d be really cool to have more custom elements throughout! Still, what we get is great. The stop-motion style of editing is one that I’d love to see more of in PMV’s. Just imagine that done with custom art too… Oh wait, TheeLinker jumped on that train with La Da Dee…

I personally think it’d be awesome to see omgilikeapples make more stuff, so please go give them your support!

I’ve Been Secretly Falling Apart by Dark Sonata

Dark ponies!  Sad ponies!  Dark Sad!  Ponies ponies!

Now here me out before you go clicking on that play button down there, some impressions of this video will make you cringe a bit, but it is so worth watching anyway.  This, I honestly believe, is the only PMV I’ve seen to make the best use of the inverted colors filter.  Other parts, such as the vectors at around 2:00, might seem way to slow and predictable, but there is an art to it all if you look past certain things.

This one has both a mood and a focus, which is about a very sad Twilight starting to degrade and fall apart.  The one scene that comes to mind?  Yes, Twi being discorded.  However there is a good bit of ingenuity in the scene selection where we don’t see the overly typical finale scenes, and I can appreciate that.  HOWEVER, the most important part of this whole entire video is that the editor had fun making it!

So for that reason, check it out with an open mind and I think you’ll find that it’s just fine.

Awake O Sleeper! by ObsessiveBookworm

Saddle up, partner. We’re going for a ride.

Although the PMV itself doesn’t seem to be related to the typical western theme, the song certainly gives those vibes. And now I’m seriously craving more PMV’s done to that genre. We need more badass Applejack in this community – but I digress.

For the most part, the video focuses on the Mane 6 and their overarching stories which works very well with the furious intensity of the song. ObsessiveBookworm has really nailed down the timing for this one. It’s some really solid editing, powerful in nature and certainly carrying dramatic weight behind it. One of the best things about simplistic PMV’s is that by stripping away the effects, you’re left with the base visuals. This can be great for storytelling, and the atmosphere is definitely one of the positives in this one. If I had to raise an objection, it would be that I don’t quite understand if there was a sense of a direction going on here. I think a more consistent focus on individual characters or stories could’ve helped. Like OB mentions in the description, it’s a very cool song and a PMV of it had to be made. Could it be done better? Maybe. Did I enjoy it? Hell yes. It was great!

Check out some crazy intensity below.

Fourth of July || Twixie by BaltoDork

No but seriously, I keep hearing fireworks and stuff going off around my neighborhood at 11PM and it’s been over a week since that holiday.  Y’all have no chill.

Well, at least we get fabulous PMVs like this one as a result!  That’s right, it’s another Fall Out Boy song, but it’s got excellent visuals from an editor who we don’t see much of.  There isn’t too much ingenuity, but everything works together like a true piece of art and it keeps a focus through the lyrics.

To start with the effects, they were really the glue that held the piece together.  Things got a little shaky with the introduction of still images (often the sign of a subpar edit) but the colored light leaks and transitions kept everything running smoothly.  The shipping story here isn’t too differential from the lyrics, but it does a nice job with the limited clip selection and really brings everything back together with a greater focus.

Check it out below and drop a subscription to the editor!

Happy Friday folks! Today we have a nice PMV involving the bond between Twilight and Celestia. The PMV seems to imply that they will be around for each other when they need to. At least that’s my take.

One thing I like about this video is the transitions. The editor really knows how to do transitions, and he knows how to do them well. However, I personally feel there were too many effects (less shake please) and sometimes transitions for the song.  Some parts were hit well, but I think the editing might have been a bit too overdone.

Still, it’s a good video and worth a watch.

Doors by various SFM animators

908179__safe_solo_twilight+sparkle_princess+twilight_artist-colon-silbersternenlicht

Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday night. We got something different from the norm to post tonight. While we don’t normally post SFM videos, this one is really neat. Consisting of 36 (I think) SFM animators, it follows Twilight Sparkle as she side scrolls through a series of door, and all the ridiculous and insane situations that happen between each one.  While I haven’t seen the original it’s based on, the concept is simple enough that it’s not necessary to enjoy this remake.

It’s really quite cool to see so many different interpretations of a pony going through a series of doors. The animation through the various segments is really quite adorable and exciting. It’s a cool video and with so many editors I can only imagine how it was coordinated so well.

Pony Soda by DownburstProductions

Hello guys and gals! Today I bring you with a really cool PMV with a Shawn Wasabi song. If you know me, you know that I mostly like and watch PMVs with motion graphics and cool effects, but everyonce in a while I like to see some simple neat PMVs. This is one of them, and it’s great. With only using clips, no filters or effects, the editor here has arranged and synchronized each clip with the song. The silly sound effects in the music that Shawn Wasabi has created with his MIDI fighter, Downburst also added it’s own bits and clips of silly moments of the ponies which makes the video really fun to watch. Go watch the PMV down below!

Far Away by Alanj2007 Games

mlp_twlight_sparkle_by_aquagalaxy-d7d9g0i

Hey guys! We’re back again with another PMV from AlanJ2007, who at this point is practically a machine with the rate he’s releasing new content. Like, damn dude. Where can I get some of that quality work ethic?

So here we have a short, flashy burst of images and music. The creator’s style is based on a mix of typography, motion graphics and show footage. It’s quite nice visually. I was impressed by his striking use of colour in some parts and the overall smoothness. However, despite the visual surface, I felt the video lacked a clear structure. Some of the scenes felt unfitting and disconnected from each other. A lot of the motion graphics seemed fancy for the sake of being fancy, rather than to exclusively serve the video. It felt somewhat shallow in content.

Criticism aside, I still think it’s amazing how the creator made this in 2 days. A lot of his visual effects still manage to inspire me, and there’s no doubting he’s improving with After Effects. Due to this only being a short project too, I feel it’s not too bad for what it is. It’d be nice to see these skills applied to future PMV’s with a clearer sense of form. Good work, nonetheless. Check out a very pretty video below!
