Our Story by SnowT

Woah what’s this? Yup, PMVToday is finally back! Man, it’s been a long time since I’ve made a post on this site. It feels good to be bringing you guys some awesome PMVs (even though now we have months of backlog. But if you find something awesome, please send it in!)

Speaking of awesome PMVs, I have a great one for you guys today. This one is a collab organized by SnowT, and featuring a collection of editors. My favorite parts are by SnowT and Particolt1030, you guys were great. But really, everybody in this video was great. All the editing styles blended together really well, and only a few parts felt out-of-place (I kinda get what you were going for with pointy ponies, but it didn’t work for me).  Still, the good stuff is good enough that I can overlook the parts I’m not the biggest fan of, and this video leaves me with a smile every time I watch it.

I’m proud to say PMVToday is back, and you all should go check out Our Story below!

Fancy by TheLightLeavesThee

Today, I bring what is probably, no joke, no exaggeration, one of the best PMVs this fandom has produced. It really is that good.

It was created by TheLightLeavesThee, who, in my experience, has two staples – using clips from the show instead of motion graphics, and emotional videos that make me want to cry. Fancy actually leaves behind the latter, and it is great to see him take on a more upbeat, fun PMV. Everything about this works. The show clips are perfectly chosen. The use of masking is top notch, especially as a way of transitioning between clips. The filters and effects are beyond amazing. The typography is great. All of the pieces fit together, making a great final product.

If I had to make a complaint, it would be the Equestria Girls clips, but it’s just a personal preference of mine to keep humans and horses in separate PMVs. But really – just go watch this thing. Right now. And while you’re at it, subscribe. I’ve been watching Dex for a while now, and every video of his gets better and better. I can’t wait to see what he has in store next.

Frame of Mind [Collab] by Alanj2007Games

Aahhh, this made me cry! For about a month, Alanj2007Games coordinated another collaboration PMV, this time to the song “Frame of Mind” by Tristam and Braken. It was originally supposed to be a collab just between him and Nebula Animations, but it was put open as a group collaboration. This allowed me to have the opportunity to work on it, along with some other great PMV creators.

I didn’t see the final product until it was released, which – I admit – allowed for an incredible surprise. The intro immediately left me in awe, giving me chills within the first few seconds. The collab itself contained so many different editing styles and content choices, as well. Two people even did some custom animation for the PMV! Some focused on specific characters like Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash; some used regular (but exciting) motion graphics / typography; and one part, by Nebula, blew me away with the feels in that it used a creative visualization of the Return of Harmony, when Twilight read her old letters to Princess Celestia. It was a blast to work on this PMV, I’m proud of what I came up with, and you definitely will love it too.

Beautiful Now by SnowT (Collab)

What does this image have to do with today’s PMV? It’s simple: the picture is awesome, and the PMV is awesome. That’s the theme of today’s post – awesome things. Because this is an awesome PMV, featuring some awesome editors.

Seriously, every possible style of PMV is present here, and the all flow together into an excellent video. The song choice, while not one I would have thought to make a PMV of, works really well. There is a great blend of typography, motion graphics, clip selection, and even some custom animations. It’s just really good, and you should go check it out below.

I See Fire by tigresss

Here is a new Feel-Good PMV for you all, with some nice color effects and typography. It is set to the song by Ed Sheeran under the same name, and utilizes clips from various episodes throughout the show. Most of them involve enemies like Chrysalis, Discord and Nightmare Moon; but what I found intereating was their decision to include several shots from the episode Dragonshy.

I find this PMV to be very calming. Tigresss’ use of slow, cinematic shots and transitions were perfect for the song. After a day of stress, I am deeply enjoying watching this video on repeat. Especially if you like calming music and videos, I would recommend watching this. This guy is very good.

Loyalty by The White Piano Key Productions

Today I have some awesome typography for you guys. This was actually entered in the PMV contest for BronyCon, but sadly didn’t place. Don’t let that deter you, though, ’cause it is great.

Loyalty is probably one of the most iconic songs in the brony fandom, and this editor definitely does it justice. The editing is fast-paced to match the song, and captures the spirit of the music very well. The graphics flow together very well, and of course there is a lot of Rainbow Dash.

Apparently White Piano Key made this over a year ago, but only uploaded it recently. Though there are a few things I would have changed (namely, the bits with Rainbow and Soarin, which I don’t feel fit the overall theme of friendship), it is still a lot of fun, and leaves you feeling good.

Find You by Alanj2007Games

rainbow_dash_by_mercurycraft7-d92uysn

Hello again, people and horses from all walks of life. Jack here, telling you about a new PMV from up-and-coming editor, Alanj2007Games.

What’s instantly noticeable about this PMV is the 3D backgrounds and the heavy use of typography. The unique look of the backgrounds is a very nice touch, and the typography is, for the most part, very fluent. There are motion graphics thrown in there too, and that, combined with some rather stunning effects and visuals, makes this a PMV that is a treat for the eyes.

My only complaint that I have with this PMV is that it is incredibly short. Not even lasting a minute, the PMV feels like it’s building up to something spectacular, then suddenly, it’s over. This did disappoint me a little, as I feel the whole song could fit the editing style that Alanj was going for here, and to see only a glimpse of it makes me want more. Such a tease, that guy.

Still, for what it is, this PMV is visually impressive, and I can’t wait for more. Check out the PMV for Find You below!

Our New Intelligence by ObsessiveBookworm

onward_ponies_by_harwicks_art-d4hhcdm

Posts so nice, I did it twice!

Jack here once again, bringing you another PMV that was entered into this year’s BronyCon PMV Contest. This PMV, made by ObsessiveBookworm (who is, personally, one of my favourite PMV makers within the fandom) placed second in the Feel Good category, and right from the get-go, you can see the time and effort that was put into the video for it to achieve that spot.

What I’ve always loved about ObsessiveBookworm’s work is how all the clips on screen match the music incredibly well, and this PMV proves no exception to that rule. However, there’s a lot more to this PMV than that. The excellent use of typography (which made this PMV feel more fun and lively), as well as the motion and placement of the vectors and masks, which kick in near the middle of the video, just shows how much work ObsessiveBookworm put into this PMV, and how far they’ve come in terms of their editing skills. Add to that the occasional use of motion graphics, and you have a wonderful combination of sound and visuals.

As stated before, I am a huge fan of ObsessiveBookworm’s work, and it’s great to see them evolve so much with every new PMV they release. I can’t really wait to see what’s next.

Flashlight by Pro Brony

Hey, Drakinite again. Here is another PMV that could be better visually, but is beautiful underneath. Pro Brony released this a few days ago, and I like it. The majority of the music video used text laid over clips from the show. Now, to be honest, several of the effects seemed either out of place or sloppy, but I like to emphasize that it doesn’t always matter, if there is a story or message to back it up.

This definitely did have a message behind the curtain. Pro Brony used the song — Flashlight by Jessie J — perfectly. The PMV is centered around the singer, who is helped through her tough days by someone close – whether it is a loved one or a friend, I am not sure. The video did not stick with one character; rather, show clips were chosen that best suited with the lyrics and message of the song.

Pro Brony has a lot of potential, and I’m really looking forward to what is to come from him in the future!

Cupcakes by Scott Rogers

It’s rare to see someone make a video to their own song. It’s very rare for the result to be really good.

So here we have a blend of typography and motion graphics set to a remix of the classic Season 1 song. I’ll be honest – upon checking this out in the submissions I was so happy to see something utilizing typography and rocking it. In PMV’s nowadays, words are generally not the main visual focus. To see a scene set-up with the lyrics in mind is refreshing. We need more typographies in this fandom.

I love how whimsical, bright and vivid the video is. It’s a lot of fun to see creativity flowing like this, and the colourful graphics really fit with the show style. The animation is pretty smooth and the timing is spot on. Yeah, it’s a bit repetitive but that’s to be expected when making a remix of a 24 second song. I appreciate the subtle things added throughout to keep things fresh, like the variations on the song sheets. There’s a few movements which could be refined but overall Scott did a fantastic job for his first PMV. Huge props to him and I’d really love to see more content in this style.

Check out some freshly baked goodness below!
