Spike’s Saga Begins by DagaYemar

Who doesn’t love a bit of Weird Al? Well today’s PMV features one of his songs, and was edited by DagaYemar.

Now this is a very simple style PMV, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s really enjoyable, and the choice of lyrics is both fitting and comedic. If the editing was more visual heavy, I don’t think it would’ve had the same impact, it wouldn’t have given the right feel.

All good Weird Al PMV’s use this style of editing, with simple edits and clever lip sync. And although the lip sync here isn’t perfect, there was definitely a good attempt made, and the creator has a lot of potential. It’s difficult to fill out a full 5 minutes and thirty seconds of PMV with show clips, without re using too many. DagaYemar has done a good job of avoiding this, which shows they have a good knowledge of all the episodes, and where to find the right clips.

It would be great to see more videos like this from them in the future.

The Ballad of Stephanie – Albuquerque by Mr Pilkington

Hello ladies and gentlemen. Today, we’re going to go on a philosophical journey through the mind of Twilight Sparkle. 11 minutes and 25 seconds of pure Weird Al craziness in PMV form. Are you ready? I don’t think you’re ready.

Considering this came out in 2012 and goes on for over 10 minutes, this is some seriously impressive editing. Fantastic lip-sync, creative selection work with the lyrics, great pacing – I’m finding it hard to fault. It’s funny, inventive and well up there in my playlist of favourite PMV’s. Weird Al’s style works so well with MLP.

Have some classic Monday silliness below!

SCS: Pony Polka by FluttershyElsa

In one of the finest examples of early MLP viral promotion, the Sunday Classics Showcase proudly presents to you, the very first in FluttershyElsa’s now world-famous Pony Polka series.

This PMV comes to us from all the way back in April of 2011, when the fandom was just starting to get a sliver of recognition from the outside world. This exposure was amplified exponentially by the attention given by Mr. “Weird” Al Yankovic himself, who through various social channels gave this video, and by extension our own weird little group, his official stamp of approval.

Being a guy who was raised on Weird Al myself, this video is a shining example of what happens when you bring two delightfully silly, yet still decadently awesome subject matters together, one playing off the other in harmony. And for being over two years old at this point, it’s still one of the most entertaining pieces of pony in the entire community.
