Dude, that is so true. Of course, After Effects has its share of users with copy-pasted title scenes or waveforms

RE: What is best editing program?
I guess Final Cut isn't an option? :o Even though I'm an avid Mac disliker, I actually love Final Cut. I used it for a summer as a camp videographer, and I consider it one of the best video editing programs on the market, although I must admit I haven't used it for any pony related productions, so I can't say how great it is for that. It's certainly versatile, though.

But since I'm not running a Mac and since Final Cut isn't an option, I'll go with Vegas, although I must admit that I'm biased because I haven't used AE or Premier at all. I do have a very special place in my heart for Windows Movie Maker (not the new one, mind you), because that's all I used for videos (pony and otherwise) for a good 6 or 7 years. It's definitely very limited... but I still love it.

Still, for power and usefulness, Vegas gets my vote. Although I am not running pro (who can afford that?), so I'm not totally sure how pro compares to the Movie Studio version or if it's much better. I like my version just fine, anyway!

For straight up assembling footage like a BAWS, you can't beat vegas. You can still use After Effects to put in some fancy froo-froo shiny things but that program sucks for actually putting videos together. Vegas all the way (even if it is rather crashy).

*Cough* Premiere pro *Cough*

I understand that some might feel that Premiere Pro is a bit difficult to learn, however once past the learning curve it is incredibly efficient working with clips and footage. I am not claiming it is directly better, but I have used both programs and them come at about the same level.

I approve this.

I use Premiere and After Effects in tandem -- arrange footage in Premiere, and just select groups of clips and right-click > 'replace with After Effects composition' to bring them into After Effects, leaving a clip in Premiere that gets updated as I'm working on it in After Effects. I don't think they're intended as one-or-the-other programs, at least for big projects.

I made my first couple PMVs by just exporting the whole thing from Premiere and layering stuff on after the fact. Even fade-outs -- I covered the screen with a big black rectangle that went from 0 to 100 opacity. Eh-heh. Rolleyes
